Gods Unchained is a TCG (Tradeable Card Game) based on the Ethereum blockchain. The game was created by Fuel Games which already have a popular game: EtherBots. EtherBots gave users the power to create their own bots with different parts which were all ETC-721 tokens – gained from purchasing in game crates. After a user created its bot, he could afterwards battle someone else’s bot. Upon the launch of EtherBots, $1 million words of parts were sold. EtherBots represented 5% of the Ethereum transactions in that period and there were some parts that users purchased with $18,000.
Gods Unchained is one of their special games – something unique that wasn’t made until now in the cryptocurrency world. If you’re a fan of Hearthstone, you will probably love it too. The company received investments from top companies such as: Continue Capital, Nirvana Capital and Coinbase. All their partners combined secured a $2.4 million investment for Gods Unchained. One of the most interesting things about the Gods Unchained is the fact that its users will be able to compete in a world tournament with a prize goal of $1,6M – obtained from selling packs of cards. According to their website, 10% of their sales will be put in the World Championship Tournament which will take place in 2019 and there will be a maximum of 20,000 people that can participate.
The thing we don’t like about Gods Unchained is the fact that its P2P. Well, its not exactly P2P – but in order to create a deck of cards, you need to purchase some cards packs. The card packs have each a different value:
- Rare – 0.012 ETH – 5 Genesis Cards, at least one rare or better.
- Epic – 0.075 ETH – 5 Genesis Cards, at least one epic or better.
- Legendary – 0.112 ETH – 5 Genesis Cards, at least one Legendary or better.
- Shiny Legendary – 1 ETH – 5 Genesis Cards, at least one is Shiny & Legendary and one is rare or better.
Each of the packages purchased gives you a chance to find one of the last 2 Mythic Titans remaining. A Mythical card ( unique, only 4 released per year) are the rarest cards in the Gods Unchained game. The last one was auctioned for 146.271 ETH which at that time was worth over $60,000 – being the second most valuable card after the Magic: The Gathering card, Black Lotus – which sold for $87,000.
From an investment point-of-view, the game can bring an amazing return – depending how lucky you are. With a 0.136 ETH investment we managed to get a 0.162 ETH value of the cards – because we bought 2 Rare packs and one Legendary one. This means that we got a small 0.026 profit in card value – which can increase or decrease over time. The value of the cards can be verified with the on the Gods Unchained info. Even if its P2P, the fact the lowest package costs $2.40 USD, makes the game quite playable. Its not a game where you’d pay for some cards to play – but you can also sell the cards in the future. It all depends on your luck.
How to play Gods Unchained?
For the moment, the game cannot be played even if you have 30 cards. The beta launch for the game is set to come in Q4 2018. We spoke with the team and they confirmed that the Beta will be launched soon, but they don’t have an ETA for the moment. So the best thing that we can do is read all the information about the game and learn to play it – and probably compete for the $1.6M prize pool. As we said, Gods Unchained is a lot like Hearthstone. But unlike it, here you can trade your cards for ETH on their future marketplace. At first, each player will need to choose one of the six gods which each have 4 basic powers.. Only four gods power were announced until now:
Thaeriel – The God of Light
Each god have four ”Basic Powers”. Thaeriel’s powers are the following ones:
- Summon Acolyte – Cost: 4 – Summon a 2/2 with Frontline and “Can’t be the target of spells or God Powers”. A great power to use when you don’t get that card that you wanted.
- Lesser Heal – Cost: 1 – Heal a target for 2. Perfect power to use when you’re low on God HP or when you have a legendary that might die the next turn.
- Heaven’s Light – Cost: 3 – Give +2 Health to all friendly creatures. Perfect if your opponent damaged all your creatures and you need a boost of HP the next round.
- Chosen Visions – Cost: 2 – Heal your god for 2. Give the Chosen one +2/+2. (If you have no Chosen One, one will be selected at random). Awesome power to protect a Legendary card or to give him extra power so you can win the round.
- Equinox – Cost: 2 – Set all board creatures attack and health to 2. Did you opponent put a 10/10 monster on the battle field? Now he have 3 of them? Its time to use Equinox.

Elyrian – The God of Magic
Elyrian’s five God Powers are the following:
- Clear Mind – Cost: 2 – Forsee 2. Elyrian will see the first two cards and will decide to keep both of the cards at the top of the deck, to throw one at the bottom or to bury both at the bottom. The perfect way to prepare your deck.
- Discovery – Cost: 4 – Delve a card from the top three cards of your deck. You will see the first 3 cards and you’ll also be able to chose one to keep it in your hand. If you’re missing a good card, you can always use this.
- Mnemomic – Cost: 1 – Reduce by 2 the cost of target spell in your hand that costs less Mana than your total Mana Crystals. A great way to use your remaining mana at the end of the turn.
- Magebolt – Cost: 3 – Deal 2 damage. Does you opponent have a 10/2 minion on the battlefield and you have none and only 3 mana? Its time to hit him with a Magebolt.
- Metamancy – Cost: 5 – Choose two: Summon a 4/4 creature, unlock 1 mana crystal, deal 4 damage, deal 2 damage to all enemy creatures, foresee 3 and draw 1, draw 2 cards. Probably one of the most over-powered god powers. But the fact that you can use this only once makes it fair to the other Gods.
Auros – The God of War
Auros’s five God Powers are the following:
- Intense Training – Cost: 2 – At the end of your turn, Give +2/+2 to a random creature in your hand. The perfect spell to use when you have that powerful minion that you want to place on the battlefield or a weak one that can become powerful.
- Onslaught – Cost: 1 – Give a creature Blitz. It allows any creature to attack in the same turn when it was placed on the battlefield.
- Enrage – Cost: 1 – Give target creature +2 Attack and +2 Burn. Perfect to use for cards like ”Tyr, The Just” – which have an extra +6 attach when he’s not with full HP.
- Clarion – Cost: 4 – Summon a random Warrior. Who knows? You may summon a legendary with this.
- Slayer – Cost: 2 – Give your God +5 Attack this turn. Perfect way to end a match – destroy the other God with your God.
Aeona – God of Nature
Aeona’s five God Powers are the following:
- Animal Bond – Cost: 4 – Summon a random confused creature, and refresh x Mana. Refresh X Mana and have a random creature summoned? That’s a great God Power – and it might be useful in hard situation. But depends on how lucky you are.
- Forage – Cost: 2 – Add a random nature card to your hand. It doesn’t even needs to be from your pack. This God Power can bring you a legendary card in your hand. But again, if you are lucky enough.
- Flourish – Cost: 3 – Randomly give all friendly creatures +2 Health or Attack. Again, a God Power focused on luck. You may need health and receive attack or attack and receive health. Only the Odds Gods know the future.
- Leech Life – Cost: 3 – Leech. Deal 2 damage to a random enemy. Its a bit costly for what it does. Magebolt allowed you to give 2 damage for 3 mana to a selected enemy, not random.
- Wildness – Cost: 0 – All enemy creatures and creatures in opponent’s hand gain confused. Refresh 2 mana crystals. Perfect god power to use when your opponent dominates you and you don’t think you have any chance.
Malissus – The Goddess of Death
Malissus’s five God Powers are the following:
- Blood Scry – Cost: 3 – Destroy target friendly creature. Draw 2 cards. Perfect power if you have a minion that will surely die next month and you need a replacement.
- Soul Burn – Cost: 2 – Deal 3 damage to each God. Can be an game-closing power – who knows. Depends only on you and how you’ll play.
- Reanimate – Cost:1 – Destroy two target friendly creatures. Summon target creature from your void with the same combined mana cost or lower. Give this creature Soulless. Did you enemy just destroyed your best card that was your chance to win the game that round? Reanimate it.
- Undying Wish – Cost: 3 – Deal 2 damage to your God. Give a creature ” Afterlife: Summon a 2/2 Reanimated corpse with Afterlife:Summon a 2/2 Reanimated Ghoul”” You don’t have any minions left and there’s 2 damage that the other god needs to get to lose the game? You can always use Undying Wish.
- Demise – Cost:5 – Pick one: Destroy target creature and deal 3 damage to opponent’s God, Destroy two target creatures, or Destroy all creatures and deal 3 damage to your God. Perfect spell to use in case the opponent outnumbers you in battefield creatures.
Ludia – The Goddess of Deception
Ludia’s five God powers are the following:
- Thievery – Cost: 1 – Look at the top card of your opponents deck. You may move it to the bottom of their deck and add a copy to the top of yours. Perfect when you have a bit of extra mana left and want to destroy your opponents package.
- Pawn – Cost: 1 – Move 3 random cards from your hand to the bottom of the deck and draw as many as you moved. If you didn’t got the cards right for your strategy – this is the perfect power to put you back on track.
- Flip – Cost: 2 – Swap the attack and health of a target friendly creature, then give it +2 attack. Can be useful to use if you have a creature with a high defense and you need that as damage to end the game.
- Memory Charm – Cost: 4 – Before their next draw, your opponent puts a card on the bottom of their deck or takes 2 damage if they cannot. A great way to leave your opponent with only a few cards in his hand. And to dominate the game.
- Treachery – Cost: 5 – Each enemy creature fights a random enemy character. At the end of your turn, give them all sleep. An amazing ultimate that can make a difference if you’re outnumbered.
The game is not even in Beta yet – but the team is working to make it available in Q4 2018. The Gods created until now looks extremely promising and well-made. The cards are awesome too, the only downside is the fact that you need to pay to create your deck. But again, the cards are collectibles so in case you’re tired of the game – you can sell all the cards on their marketplace and probably make a profit. Who knows. Gods Unchained looks like a promising game and we’ll soon come with the part II where we’ll talk more about it, mostly about the deck structure and how to build the perfect deck so you can dominate your opponents. In the meantime, an additional Mythic has been found already named Prometheus. The third and last Mythic for Genesis, has been data mined from the game, too.
The Mythic’s name is “Atlas”. Participants of the gu.cards Advent-Calendar, already’ve seen it in a sneak preview on the day of Christmas.
